External Wall Insulation
If your property has solid brick walls, you could be eligible for a grant for external wall insulation under the ECO4 Solid Wall Insulation scheme.

What is External Wall Insulation?
The insulation requires installing a coating of insulation to the exterior wall of your home. It is then covered with specialist cladding — finished with a smooth render, paint, tiled surface, panelling, pebble dash, or brick slips.
Key Considerations
- Insulation of external walls can be conducted without any disruption to the internal side of your house and will not reduce any floor area.
- Insulation of external walls will change the way the exterior walls look — take this into consideration if you have feature walls.
- The life span of your walls will increase as they become protected against the weather, providing great resistance.
- Exterior wall insulation may require planning permission and optimum access to the outside of your home.
- If the outer walls are structurally unfit, then exterior wall insulation is not recommended.
- The insulation can decrease or prevent condensation on internal walls, but will not resolve rising or saturated damp.
Benefits of External Wall Insulation
- Reduces heat loss and energy bills
- Soundproofing from outside noise
- Could increase the value of the property
- Increases the life of the wall
- Can reduce condensation on internal walls if fitted correctly
